Tony
Cliff BMus (Hons), MPhil, ALCM, FLCM, Cert.Ed
graduated from Royal Holloway College, University of
London and his early career combined teaching,
lecturing and professional performing. For many years
Tony was Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of
Salford, specialising in jazz composition, arranging,
history, and analysis and performance techniques. It
was during his career at Salford that Tony’s music
began to be published. His work is now published by
Stainer and Bell, Faber Music, Studio Music, Kirklees
Music and Winwood Music with works ranging from solo
instrument and piano to choral pieces and works for
brass band, wind band and jazz orchestra. Many of
Tony’s compositions have also been recorded and have
been regularly broadcast. More recently Tony
established his own music publishing company where
various new works may be purchased on-line directly
from this website.
Tony was a member of the SPNM, PRS, and MCPS and also a
member of the Musicians’ Union and Incorporated Society of
Musicians. In addition to his compositional work, he has
written numerous articles and reviews for newspapers,
magazines, and journals. He wrote regular articles for
'Music Teacher’ magazine and 'Classroom Music'.
In 1998 Tony moved down to Falmouth in Cornwall working as
a freelance composer, performer, and private teacher whilst
also enjoying the beautiful environment and wonderful
Cornish coastline. Tony was an accomplished classical and
jazz pianist and was resident pianist in several of
Cornwall's finest hotels. He passed away in September 2020.
